The launch of Maag on Sustainable Gastronomy Day 2026

We deliberately chose Sustainable Gastronomy Day for the launch of Maag, a gut health company who believes that food sits at the intersection of human health, culture, sustainability, and the microbial ecosystems that call our bodies home. By understanding these connections, we hope to support food choices that support both our own wellbeing and the health of the world around us..

This year's theme, "Celebrating Food Heritage," resonates deeply with what we hope to achieve. Across cultures and generations, food traditions have shaped how we eat, gather, and care for one another. Long before we understood the science of the microbiome, people were creating foods and dietary patterns that nourished both communities and health.

At Maag, we are fascinated by the connection between these food traditions and the trillions of microbes that live within us. Many heritage foods—from fermented foods and whole grains to legumes, fruits, and vegetables—are rich in the diversity and nutrients that support a thriving gut microbiome. Modern science is increasingly revealing what traditional food cultures often understood intuitively: that food is about far more than calories alone.

As we begin the Maag journey, we look forward to exploring the science of the microbiome, sharing evidence-based insights, and celebrating the rich food heritage that has shaped the way we eat today.

There could be no more fitting a day to launch Maag than one dedicated to celebrating the foods, traditions, and cultures that continue to nourish us—and the microbial communities within us.

Welcome to Maag.
